14-Mile South Shore Multi-Use Pathway

Project Info

Project Description

This project has been designed to extend from Estate Humbug to Point Udall and is on the DPW approved priority projects for the Territory.  The required $20,000 needed to complete the Archeology Study is now met by a successful grant application through VISHIPO, in collaboration between VITAL and the DPW.  Cruzan Pathway Inc. have advanced this project for many years, gained community and Senate support.  The VI Trail Alliances focus is to lobby for this project to ensure funding through DPW funding sources (BUILD DOT).  This project requires approx. 300,000 for an engineer study and 14-Million to build the 12 ft. wide independent pathway that will create 14 miles of vehicle-free pedestrian supported infrastructure for the territory.  This pathway is a major component in the creation of an Island wide pathway or greenway around St. Croix.

During the 2019 Agriculture 3-day Fair, VITAL and partners obtained 200 signatures on a petition in favor of this project.  These signatures have been given to Commissioner Petty to be added to the 2019 Funding Application.  Funding requirements are under review by the Commissioner. Our Congresswomen, Stacey Plaskett is aware of this project and is seeking funding for pathways for the Territory.

This is an approved shovel ready project under the Department of Public Works management for the Territory.
