Complete Streets Legislation being drafted for the Territory
On July 29th, Senator Payne and his staff met with the Regional Director for AARP, Troy Schuster along with members of the Walkability Institute & others, both in person and by conference call at the AARP Board Room on St. Croix.
This meeting merged a great deal of effort that has been generated by Mr. Payne and staff and that of the AARP and Walkability Institute. The Complete Streets Program is a National Initiative under the AARP network that assists communities to advance pedestrian infrastructure and systems through thoughtful, impactful and generational legislation.
Alma Winkfield, VP of VITAL was pleased to be a part of this first meeting to draft a Complete Streets Legislative Policy for the Territory. When passed this legislation will guide planners to include pedestrian, ADA and public transit needs to road projects where it be new road designs or road improvement projects. Over the next few months you will hear more about this great work and have a chance to evaluate the proposed legislation. It is your time to let your voices be heard in support of safe, continuous, accessible pedestrian infrastructure so you and yours can access services of daily needs and recreational spaces via convenient transportation options.
