Centerline Road

Project Info

Project Description

UPDATE:  VITAL in partnership with the DPW has submitted a funding request from the HFA for unmet needs along this roadway.  If successful the funding would include bus stop improvements, benches, shade trees, green spaces and crosswalks. This road design plan will be the second of the four major road projects to be released by the DPW and VITAL plans to submit options for pedestrian infrastructure that will supported all user needs.

This pathway was identified to be a priority location for the residents of St. Croix. A map survey took place during the 3-day Agriculture Fair. Due to this community survey and interaction the Centerline Pathway was added to VITAL’s concept plan and was then presented at the “Planning of New Pathways Steering Committee” and at a separate meeting with the Commissioner of DPW, Nelson Petty. The Commissioner has added this separate pedestrian supported pathway concept to the design work for the current Centerline Road project. This route will stretch from the Historical Town of Frederiksted to Sunny Isles Shopping Center.

This is a major route that connects people to multiple services of daily needs such as shopping, grocery stores, schools, churches, government offices, police, post office, sporting facilities and others. This pathway will encourage active healthy lifestyles and access to services along a safe pedestrian infrastructure for both pedestrians and drivers, improving quality of life.
