Project Description
UPDATE: Vital has been working with the Department of Public Works Design Team on this road segment, and has submitted a proposal with options on varies road lengths, that could meet all user needs. The comprehensive proposal has been reviewed by the DPW and once the Environmental Study is completed and the true road width allowance will be identified. The DPW will then hold community engagement meetings to gain public opinions, to assist in the selection of viable options that will range from sidewalks, multi-use pathways, bike lanes, improved transit stops and crosswalks. This will be the first of 4 major road projects that are slated to be designed with pedestrian supported infrastructure.
VITAL in partnership with the DPW has submitted an unmet needs planning request for this roadway from the HFA. If successful this funding will provide roadside improvements that will enhance the users experience, showcase local history, give access to new green spaces and rest areas along the route, while promoting safe, active lifestyles for all users.
The Community Engagement meetings are your chance to have input to the pedestrian infrastructure that is near your home, business, or school. This is a time for community members to come together to ensure that the changes we make today will also address the needs of future generations and not just their vehicles. Meeting will be announced in the Fall of 2019.
This pathway would extend from Centerline Road at Villa Lorraine along the Northside Road to the Bassin Triangle Intersection. This pathway was introduced by the Assistant Commissioner of DPW, Denis Brow during the “Planning of New Pathways Committee” meeting. At a later meeting with the Commissioner of DPW, Nelson Petty it was confirmed that the pathway needs would be included in the current design work for the Northside Rd.
This pathway will connect places of daily needs from schools, Charles Howard Clinic, food options, businesses, Courthouse and many neighborhoods and communities. This pathway when joined to the Centerline Road Pathway will join the two Historical Towns and support healthy, active lifestyles.
